What is Vestibular and Balance Rehabilitation?
Vestibular and Balance Rehabilitation focuses on evaluation and treatment of the inner ear and other disorders resulting in complaints of vertigo, dizziness and decreased balance. Vestibular rehabilitation works to improve balance, reduce fall risk and reduce problems related to dizziness and imbalance by incorporating specialized exercises that help to retrain the inner ear and balance systems by “retraining the brain”.
What Causes Dizziness & Balance Issues?

- Vestibular Neuritis & Labyrinthitis – Inner ear infections leading to dizziness
- Meniere’s Disease – Inner ear fluid imbalance causing vertigo and hearing issues

Vestibular Rehabilitation - Frequently Asked Questions
Is vestibular therapy safe?
Yes! Our therapists are highly trained to provide gentle, effective treatments tailored to your condition. Some patients may experience temporary dizziness during exercises, but this is a normal part of the retraining process.
How long does Vestibular Rehabilitation therapy take?
Treatment length varies depending on the severity of your symptoms. Many patients see improvement within 6 to 8 sessions, while others may need longer-term therapy or at-home exercises to continue progress.
Do I need a referral to start vestibular therapy?
In many cases, a referral from your primary care physician, neurologist, or ENT specialist may be required for insurance coverage. However, in Virginia, direct access laws allow you to schedule an evaluation with a physical therapist without a doctor’s referral. If you’re unsure, our team can help guide you through the process.
